While WordCamp can only cost a maximum of five Big Macs (Automattic's instructions), most conferences are in the range of around 300-600 euros, some are well over 1,000 euros. There are now quite a few online marketing conferences and one must not hide the fact that it is a very good business for the operators. But it is also very strenuous work, a “tough business” to get good speakers and many participants and a high risk. I suspect that this year or next year we will reach the point where not every conference will in principle get more participants every year, but there will also be a decline in participants.
